Printed Paper Bags

Custom Restaurant Paper Bags

A restaurant bag is a mobile advertisement. It is carried through a busy street, past people who have not eaten yet, and photographed more often than you would expect.

The design mistake is to lay it out flat on a screen, because that is the one state nobody ever sees it in.

Design Your Own

Design Your Custom Restaurant Paper Bags

Pick a colour, put your name on it, and see how the idea reads before you ask anyone for a price. It is a sketch rather than a manufacturing proof — the real shape is cut from the product you already serve.

Finish

On unbleached board every colour prints warmer than it looks here. Two inks chosen for kraft beat four fighting the brown.

Carry this into the full designer

The full page adds the size, board, print and quantity, then sends the whole specification over in one go. Nothing is committed to at any point.

Design for the Bag When It Is Full

A full bag bulges, the gusset opens out, and the top folds over. Artwork that runs to the edges gets distorted or hidden by exactly those changes.

Keeping the key elements in the centre of the front face, well clear of folds and the gusset, survives all of it.

Where the Print Gets Seen

  • The front face at chest height, which is what passers-by see.
  • The gusset, visible from the side as the bag swings.
  • The base, seen when the bag is set down on a table.
  • The inside of the fold-over top, occasionally, when the bag is opened.

Printing all four is rarely worth it; the front face and the gusset do most of the work.

Ordering, Artwork and Delivery

Getting a Quote

Measure the item, then add enough on each side to fold and tuck. We reply with a written specification, the minimum order quantity and the lead time for your job.

Artwork

One or two colours reproduce most reliably on an absorbent stock. Full file requirements are set out in our artwork guidelines.

Turnaround

Lead times depend on the print method, run length and press schedule, so we confirm yours on the quote rather than publishing a single figure.

Delivery in the UK

Orders are dispatched on national carriers to any UK address. Seedelivery information for how dates are given.

Custom Restaurant Paper Bags: Common Questions

Should we print both sides of the bag?

It doubles the visible surface for a bag that swings as it is carried, which some brands value. For most, the front face and the gusset are enough and the back can stay plain.

Why does our design look distorted on the finished bag?

Almost always because it was laid out flat. A full bag bulges and the gusset opens, so artwork running to the edges gets stretched or hidden at exactly those points.

Where is the print actually seen?

The front face at chest height, the gusset from the side, and the base when the bag is set on a table.

Do we need grease resistance?

Only where hot food goes in unboxed. If everything is contained, a plain bag is adequate and considerably cheaper.

Will a paper bag carry a full order?

A properly specified one will. Test with your heaviest normal order rather than relying on a stated weight figure.

Can we run several sizes?

Yes, and most restaurants need two. Running both in one job shares the setup rather than repeating it.

How do we choose a size?

From your largest container rather than a typical order. A bag that will not take the big box is unusable.

Do these suit collection orders?

They are mostly bought for them, where the customer carries the bag through a street and past other people.

Prefer to Talk It Through?

Sizing questions are usually quicker on the phone, especially if you have the product in front of you.
