Ice cream that melts quickly on a hot day is the hardest test for an unlaminated sleeve. Sites in that position often keep a laminated sleeve for summer.

Claims Have to Match What Actually Happens

Whether a sleeve is recycled depends on the collection available where it is thrown away, not only on the material. A sleeve printed with a recycling instruction that local facilities do not offer is worse than one with no instruction at all.

We will tell you what a quoted board and finish consist of. Checking that against your own waste contractor, and against the bins available to your customers, is a step worth taking before the wording goes on the print.

Eco-Friendly Cone Sleeves: Common Questions

Is an unlaminated sleeve strong enough for ice cream?

For counter service where the cone is eaten quickly, generally yes. For a hot day, a long walk or a heavy double scoop, the board softens noticeably. It is a judgement about your own trade rather than a yes or no.

Can you supply board with recycled content?

Recycled-content stocks exist across the range, with availability and cost varying by grade and by what is in the mill at the time. We confirm what is available for your specification when we quote.

Does an eco specification cost more?

Removing lamination usually reduces cost. Moving to a specialist board can increase it. The two often cancel out, which surprises people expecting a premium.

Is unlaminated board cheaper?

Usually, because it removes a production step. Moving to a specialist recycled stock can add some of that back, so the two often cancel out.

Can you supply certified board?

Which certifications are available depends on the specific stock and what is in supply when your job runs. We confirm that in writing on your quote rather than claiming it generally.

What percentage recycled content can we get?

It varies by grade and availability, so we do not publish a figure. Tell us it matters and we will confirm what is achievable for your specification.

Can we print a recycling symbol on the sleeve?

Only if it describes what a customer can actually do where they throw it away. We will tell you the material; checking it against local collection is the step that makes the claim honest.

Does removing lamination affect print quality?

Slightly. Colours read a little softer and less saturated on an uncoated surface. Many brands prefer that look, which is worth seeing before deciding.

Are these suitable for savoury cones?

Usually not. Grease resistance comes from a lining or coating, which is exactly what an unlaminated, uncoated specification leaves out.

What is the single biggest improvement we could make?

If you have seating, serving eat-in customers in reusables. It almost always outweighs every material substitution available on the disposable range put together.
